1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and SocialEdit ("SocialEdit," "we," "us") governing your use of the SocialEdit mobile app and the website at socialedits.app (together, the "Service"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. The Service
SocialEdit is a phone-first video app for recording, organizing, and editing short videos, with optional collaboration features that let a project owner invite editors. Solo recording and editing run on your device and are free. Collaboration features require a paid subscription and are described below.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you use it on behalf of a business or team, you represent that you're authorized to accept these Terms for that organization.
4. Your account
Solo use does not require an account. To collaborate, you sign in with your email address. You're responsible for keeping access to your email and account secure and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
5. Subscriptions and billing
- Plans. Team lets an owner share projects with up to 3 editors. Studio allows up to 20 editors. Each is available on a monthly or yearly basis.
- Pricing. Current prices are shown in the app and on the App Store at the time of purchase. Taxes may apply depending on your location.
- Where you pay. Subscriptions are sold through the App Store and billed to your Apple account. Purchases are subject to the App Store's terms in addition to these Terms.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel your subscription in your device's account settings.
- Refunds. Payments are processed by Apple, so refund requests are handled under Apple's policies. We don't separately process payments or issue refunds.
- Downgrades. If your subscription ends or you exceed a plan's editor limit, sharing features may become unavailable, but your locally stored content remains on your device.
6. Roles and sharing
The Service uses two roles:
- Owner. Records, imports, organizes, and owns clips, and is the only role that can record. Owners choose which folders to share and set each editor's permissions.
- Editor. Works only within folders explicitly shared to them, limited to the permissions the owner grants (editing, and optionally importing and exporting). Editors cannot record.
If you invite someone, you're responsible for the invitation and for the access you grant. If you accept an invitation, you agree to use shared content only as permitted by the owner and by these Terms. Permissions are enforced by our servers; attempting to bypass them is prohibited (see Acceptable use).
7. Your content
You own your content. The videos you record or import and the edits you create are yours. We don't claim ownership of them.
To provide collaboration features you turn on, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, transmit, and process your content solely to operate the Service for you and the people you share with, for example uploading a shared clip so an invited editor can view and edit it. This license exists only to run the features you use and ends when the content is deleted, subject to routine backups and legal retention.
You are responsible for the content you record, import, and share, and you represent that you have the rights needed to use it and to share it with the editors you invite.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to create, store, or share content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you don't have the rights to.
- Attempt to bypass, disable, or probe permission checks, entitlement checks, or other security controls.
- Access folders, clips, or accounts that haven't been shared with you.
- Reverse engineer, tamper with, or interfere with the Service except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
- Use the Service to harass others or violate their privacy or rights.
9. Our intellectual property
The SocialEdit app, website, name, logo, and design are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms don't grant you any right to use our branding except as needed to use the Service normally.
10. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties, including Apple for app distribution and payments and cloud providers for hosting collaboration features. Your use of those services is subject to their terms, and we're not responsible for them. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation to provide support for the Service.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will prevent copying of video once it has been shared to another device (see our honest note on the export limit). You are responsible for keeping your own backups of content that matters to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SocialEdit will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or content, arising from or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or, if you paid nothing, will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Termination
You can stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from within the app. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these Terms or use the Service in a way that risks harm to others or to the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; content stored only on your device remains yours, and account data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which SocialEdit's operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes will be handled in the courts located there, unless applicable consumer-protection law in your place of residence gives you the right to bring a claim locally.
